Sound

With a figure-of-eight polar pickup pattern and wide apatures around the ribbon motor, Whelan ribbon microphones are designed to be as versatile as possible, leaving it to you the sound engineer to use microphone placement to find the sound that suits your project.

A lot of manufacturers will talk about how their ribbons sound 'warm', 'natural' or 'old-fashioned'. These terribly generic terms are often used also to describe ribbon mics as a whole, so if you are in the market for a decent studio microphone you want to know how it really sounds, right?

Audio Clips

For each clip I have included as much information as possible, the clips are in a choice of MP3 and 44.1Khz/16bit WAV (right-click and save to disk rather than trying to play these high-quality clips in your web-browser), together with a photo or diagram of how they were placed. If you would like to discuss arranging a demo of the mics at your studio then please contact Bobby using the details at the bottom of this page.
